Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue; Overpass at Lake George

Bridge Deck Construction at Lake GeorgeEffective today, temporary pedestrian crossings of Highway 23/Division Street have been opened at Washington Memorial Drive, 14th Avenue, 7th Avenue and 4th Avenue. Pedestrians can access these at the east side of the intersections.

Due to forecasted extreme high temperatures later this week, Lunda crews will begin bridge work this Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, at 4:00 a.m. The contractor will be sandblasting the new deck Thursday morning in preparation for the low slump wearing course overlay Friday morning. This work must be completed in temps below 80 degrees.

Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud has switched over to the newly constructed westbound lanes. A temporary bypass around the Lake George bridge will allow for the final construction on the north half of the new bridge.

Eastbound left turns at Washington Memorial Drive are no longer permitted, for the remainder of the project. Eastbound motorists can turn left or go straight and turn left at several intersections beginning with 16th Avenue. Eastbound right turns and westbound right/left turning movements will be allowed.

The south side of 4th Avenue at Highway 23/Division Street is closed to traffic to help facilitate the new eastbound traffic lane movement.

Concrete pavement removals continue on the eastbound lanes. Bituminous milling of the eastbound lanes will begin this week. A second, smaller mill will begin on the intersections later this week. 9th/10th Avenue and 1st Street milling will also begin this week.

Water main installation at 5th and 15th Avenue being later this week and will continue into next week.

The Lake George approach panels have been poured. Bridge railing, median and sidewalk will be poured this week and the first part of next week. The deck wear course will follow.

The completion of the westbound portion of the bridge is scheduled for early July.

Curb and gutter placement around the bridge site will begin next week.

Geofoam placement starts on the westbound on/off ramps this week.

Street light base and conduit installation continues throughout the project.

On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street and St. Germain Street.


Mississippi River Bridge

Crews have finished erecting girders and continue work on diaphragms.

Began installing shear studs and rebar on Span #4 over Riverside Drive.

Decking crews will begin decking main span next week.

Crews have finished underground water main installation and will begin storm sewer work from 4th Ave to the bridge.

Crews continue working on walls for the bike trail on the west side of the river.

Granite stone veneer installation continues on the west abutment. Crews expect to have this completed by the end of June and will then move to the east abutment.

Retaining wall on the west side of the river removal and construction continues.

Crews are installing the 16" insulated water main for the river crossing between the girders.

Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during this project.
