Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue
Important Note: Currently, motorists are traveling on
the eastbound lanes of Highway 23, one lane of traffic in each
direction. Traffic will be switched over to the newly constructed
westbound lanes the week of June 8th. A temporary bypass around
the Lake George bridge will be required to allow for the final
construction on the north half of the new bridge
No
eastbound left turns at Washington Memorial Drive will be permitted
once traffic is on the new westbound lanes, for the remainder
of the project. Motorists will have the option to go straight
and turn left at 14th Avenue. Eastbound right turns and westbound
right turning movements will be allowed.
North Washington Memorial Drive at Highway 23 opened to traffic
on Friday, May 29, as scheduled.
Gravel placement from the east side of the bridge to 7th Avenue
will be completed early this week in preparation of next weeks
bituminous paving.
Grading and construction of the retaining wall between 6th and
7th Avenues was completed this week.
Final pours for the Cloverleaf parking lot retaining wall were
completed this week. Finishing work and coloring will commence
once the concrete has cured.
Storm sewer pipe lining was completed this week.
Sidewalk grading and concrete placement continues at various locations
throughout the project.
Street light base and conduit installation continues throughout
the project.
Overpass at Lake George
A temporary bypass around the Lake George bridge will be required
to allow for the final construction on the north half of the new
bridge.
Crews continue to tie reinforcement steel for the deck on the
Lake George bridge. The first deck pour has been moved to the
middle of next week. The completion of the westbound portion of
the bridge is scheduled for early July.
West bound Geofoam placement was completed on Wednesday with the
concrete cap pour scheduled for Thursday.
Grading on 9th Avenue from 4th Avenue to the eastbound on/off
ramps continues this week.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain Street.
Mississippi River Bridge
Crews will complete setting girders for Span #1 today and will
begin to set girders for the final Span #2.
Crews have completed removing the concrete roadway from the
bridge to 4th Avenue and will begin underground sewer and water
next week west of the bridge.
Crews continue working on walls for the bike trail on the west
side of the river.
Granite stone veneer installation continues on the west abutment
and the south west wing wall.
Retaining wall on the west side of the river is being removed.
Construction will begin on the new wall.
Crews have begun to install the 16" insulated water main
for the river crossing between the girders.
Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during
this project.
Existing local and truck detours will remain in place.
