Open to traffic: North Washington Memorial Drive at Highway
23 is scheduled to open to traffic late Friday evening, May 29.
Currently,
motorists are traveling on the eastbound lanes of Highway 23,
one lane of traffic in each direction. Traffic will be switched
over to the newly constructed westbound lanes the week of June
8th.
A temporary bypass around the Lake George bridge will be required
to allow for the final construction on the north half of the new
bridge. More information will be provided in the next weekly project
update.
Grading from Washington Memorial Drive to 12th Avenue is completed.
Crews will begin paving operations.
Grading from 7th to 4th Avenue will be completed today. Paving
planned for late this week or early next week.
Grading and construction of the retaining wall between 6th and
7th Avenues began this week. Completion is scheduled for next
week.
Grading on 9th Avenue from 4th Avenue to the eastbound on/off
ramps will begin next week.
Final pours for the Cloverleaf parking lot retaining wall will
be completed this week. Form removal is planned for next week.
Sidewalk and entrance grading continues at various locations
throughout the project.
Street light base and conduit installation continues throughout
the project.
Overpass at Lake George
A temporary bypass around the Lake George bridge will be required
to allow for the final construction on the north half of the new
bridge. More information will be provided in the next weekly project
update.
Crews are forming the deck for the Lake George bridge. The deck
pour is scheduled for the end of next week. The completion of
the westbound portion of the bridge is scheduled for early July.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain Street.
Mississippi River Bridge
Crews
continue to erect bridge beams and girders. The remaining beams
and girders will be set from the west abutment to Pier #1 and
begin setting girders for the final Span 2.
Crews will begin removing the old concrete roadway on the west
side after the west abutment girders are set.
Crews continue working on walls for the bike trail on the west
side of the river.
Granite stone veneer installation continues on the west abutment.
Retaining wall on the west side of the river is being removed.
Construction will begin on the new wall after girders are set
for the west abutment.
The Desoto Monument has been removed and will be delivered to
the city of St. Cloud for restoration and future placement.
Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during
this project.
Existing local and truck detours will remain in place.
