Traffic impact: North Washington Memorial Drive at Highway
23 is scheduled to close to traffic at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May
18. Work will take about two weeks to complete. Traffic will be
detoured onto 14th Avenue between Division Street and St. Germain
Street.
6th and 12th Avenues are closed to traffic to allow for underground
utility work at those intersections. Utility work is expected
to be completed by Friday.
Sidewalk, curb and gutter work along Highway 23 from 4th to
8th Avenue and 12th Avenue to the bridge will begin at the end
of this week and will run through next week.
8th Avenue utility work continues.
Grading and base construction continues on the westbound lanes
of Highway 23.
Motorists are traveling on the eastbound lanes of Highway 23,
one lane of traffic in each direction.
Overpass at Lake George
Delivery of the bridge beams begins on Monday, May 18th. These
deliveries may require short-term lane closures. Please slow down
and prepare to stop, if required, during this operation.
Crews will begin setting beams on Monday and continuing through
the week to complete all beam placements on the north half of
the Lake George bridge by Friday.
All of the piling for the north portion of the Lake George bridge
is completed.
West abutment will be formed this week. Abutment wall panel
will be poured Thursday.
Forming of the Cloverleaf parking lot retaining wall began this
week.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain Street.
Mississippi River Bridge
Girders for the new bridge started arriving on Tuesday, May 12.
Crews are launching and erecting girders from the east side of
river. Six girders have been set from pier #3 to the tower pad
at the east river bank.
The haunch girders over pier #2 should start arriving Thursday
(today). Crews will start setting them Friday and connect with
the girders to pier #3 and complete this section by the end of
next week.
Girders for the west abutment and over Riverside Drive will
arrive next.
The west abutment is completed and is backfilled.
Crews are constructing the wall for the railing on old pier
#1 for the walkway on the west river bank beneath the new bridge.
Granite stone veneer installation continues on the east abutment,
north east wing wall and pier #3.
Water main and sewer work will be complete by next week on the
east side.
The contractor will continue to monitor erosion control.
Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during
this project.
