Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue

The closure for Washington Memorial Drive that was tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, has been moved to the week of May 18. A specific date will be announced later this week.

The intersection of Highway 23 at 7th and 14th Avenue is open. 6th and 12th Avenue are closed to traffic to allow for underground utility work to be completed at those intersections. Utility work is expected to be completed this week.

Work begins on the permanent pedestrian signal installation at 12th Avenue.

Utility work at 5th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Avenues are completed on the north portion of Highway 23.

8th Avenue utility work continues.

Curb and gutter work along Highway 23 mainline begins this week.

Grading and base construction continues on the westbound lanes of Highway 23.

Motorists are traveling on the eastbound lanes of Highway 23, one lane of traffic in each direction.


1st Street North/4th Avenue

Traffic impact: Maintenance work on the Highway 23 project detour route at the intersection of 1st Street North and 4th Avenue in St. Cloud will be performed on Tuesday, May 12, beginning at 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists should expect single lane closures on 1st Street North. A detour route will be posted for 4th Avenue traffic.

Work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13.



Overpass at Lake George

Traffic impact: beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 9th Avenue under the Lake George bridge will close to traffic to allow crews to work on the sanitary sewer and pave. Motorists should follow signed detour. Work is expected to be completed by 5:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14.

Pile driving operation on the west abutment will be completed this week. This completes all the piling for the north portion of the Lake George bridge.

Footings will be formed and poured in the west abutment this week.

East abutment will be poured this week.

Pier #1 stems will be formed and poured this week.

Pier #2 cap will be formed at the end of the week.

Pier #3 cap will be formed and poured this week.

Delivery of the bridge beams will begin the week of May 18th.

Cloverleaf parking lot, retaining wall footings, will be formed and poured this week.

On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street and St. Germain Street.


Mississippi River Bridge

Girders for the new bridge started arriving on Tuesday. Crews are launching and erecting girders from the east side of river. They will start erecting girders on the west side in two weeks.

The contractor continues to work on the construction of the west abutment wing walls.

The west abutment will be backfilled when completed this week. Work will start on removing the old pier #1 and reconstructing the walkway under the bridge on the west river bank.

Granite stone veneer work will be completed on the east abutment and pier #3 this week. Crews will then move to the northeast wing wall.

The monument on the west side of the river is being salvaged and will go to the city for future placement.

Watermain and sewer work will be completed on the east side river next week.

The contractor will continue to monitor erosion control.

Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during this project.

Existing local and truck detours will remain in place.
