Eastbound Highway 23 will be closed from Wilson Avenue to Lincoln Avenue in St. Cloud.

Both westbound and eastbound Highway 23 traffic will be detoured via Lincoln Avenue, St. Germain Street and Fourth Avenue in St. Cloud.The intersection at Wilson Avenue will remain open for local through traffic. Detour: pdf file; jpg image

Semitrailer drivers are encouraged to continue to follow the signed truck route around St. Cloud.

The closure is necessary to allow Xcel Energy to relocate a gas main underneath the Highway 23 DeSoto bridge.

Crews will drill a tunnel below the river surface to connect with the current gas main between St. Cloud City Hall and Wilson Avenue. Any questions about the gas main work may be directed to Thomas Hoen, Xcel Energy representative, at 612/215-5308 or the Xcel Hotline at 612/215-5300.

Construction on the new $36 million Highway 23 Mississippi River bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in November 2009.
