Highway 10 four-lane expansion work resumes in Staples

BAXTER, Minn. - Crews will resume construction of the $10.2 million Highway 10 four-lane expansion project in Staples beginning the week of April 14, weather permitting.

The four-lane segment through the city of Staples opened to four-lanes of traffic last fall. This season, crews will complete the short remaining section west of town from 255th Avenue to Township Road 75, according to Darren Nelson, Minnesota Department of Transportation project supervisor.

Additional work includes removing temporary roads and connections, constructing eastbound and westbound road connections on the east end of town, landscaping, rebuilding turf and installing a decorative concrete boulevard.

During the work, traffic will be shifted onto the completed eastbound lanes to allow crews to construct the westbound lanes. Motorists may also encounter intermittent lane and shoulder closures throughout the work zone.

Mathiowetz Construction Corporation of Sleepy Eye is the prime contractor for the safety improvement project, which is scheduled to be complete in early July.

MnDOT urges motorists to slow down, watch for lane shifts and sudden stops, and be alert for workers and heavy moving equipment in the work zone. For updated statewide traffic, construction, weather and travel information, visit www.511mn.org.
