Open to Traffic
Construction on the Highway 23 four lane expansion began on July 27, 2011, and all four lanes of roadway opened to traffic on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.
The redesigned highway also includes new turn lanes, programmable signal system with flashing yellow arrows at the Highway 23/25 intersection, improved drainage system, improved local roads and utilities and upgraded pedestrian crosswalks that meet modern accessibility standards.
Traffic engineers will next monitor the roadway’s operations, optimize the signal timing at the Hwy 23/25 intersection and conduct a speed study.
The last segment of concrete mainline was poured on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
