Thief River Falls drainage projects

This project is a combined effort among MnDOT, Pennington County and Red Lake Watershed. The purpose of the collaborative efforts is to reduce flooding and improve drainage along the west side of Thief River Falls.

A virtual public meeting occurs at 10 a.m. every Tuesday for the Thief River Falls community and business owners to learn about the latest updates for all of the projects happening in the area.

Attendees can join the meeting online or call on a phone. Both ways allow attendees to listen to the project team. With the online option, presentation materials can be viewed.

Summary of work

  • Replace culvert at intersection of Hwy 59 and 1, with new culvert 0.25 miles west of the intersection
  • Culvert replacement will begin as soon as conditions, such as spring road restrictions, allow

  • Detour onto 190th ST NE and County Road 14

  • Culvert replacement will begin as soon as conditions, such as spring road restrictions, allow

Summary of work

  • Construct a diversion channel and drainage infrastructure on the west side of Thief River Falls. Underground storm sewer will be installed along Barzen Ave and Greenwood St, along with a new sanitary sewer
