Draft Environmental Assessment Worksheet for Hwy 2 project available for comment


BEMIDJI, Minn. - The public is invited to comment on the draft Environmental Assessment Worksheet for the Hwy 2 passing lane project from Cass Lake to Deer River.

The project involves constructing improvements at sixteen locations to provide four-lane passing sections, a bypass lane, and turn lanes. The proposed Project also includes clearing trees within the safety clear zone and tree thinning in the three passing lane areas of the Project.  It will also include obtaining additional easements from the Chippewa National Forest, including a 100-foot-wide permanent easement on the north side of Hwy 2 and a permanent easement to the Soo Line trail and BNSF railroad on the south side of Hwy 2.  

The comment period for this project will be May 12, 2014 through June 11, 2014.  The EAW, which assesses the potential impacts of the project, will be available in hard copy at the following locations:
