Bemidji 15th Street Bridge to reopen later today
Bridge has been closed since July 13
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The 15th Street Bridge over Hwy 2 in Bemidji will reopen later today according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. “Crews have nearly finished preparing the bridge for traffic,” said Roger Hille, district bridge engineer. “They should have it all wrapped up and open to the public by this evening.”
Motorists will encounter lane delineators and concrete barriers shifting the lanes towards the north side of the bridge.
The bridge will reopen with size and weight restrictions. The weight restrictions will not affect school bus traffic.
A MnDOT engineering evaluation indicates the bridge can safely support traffic on 15th Street with vehicles routed along the north side of the bridge.
Four of the six bridge beams sustained damage and will be replaced next year. The damaged beams have been encased with a protective barrier to ensure that no loose concrete falls onto Hwy 2.
