Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 200 detour near Laporte begins May 28

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists on Hwy 200 from Hwy 64 to Hubbard County Road 39 in Laporte will encounter a detour and possible delays beginning Tuesday, May 28, weather permitting. The project began on May 6 with tree and stump removal near the highway right of way.

“Along with resurfacing two miles of pavement, the project will improve drainage by replacing a culvert and correcting the hills and slopes in the area,” explained Todd Vonasek, Resident Engineer. “It will reduce the risk of flooding on the highway too.”

During the road construction portion of the project, Hwy 200 will close and motorists will use a detour.

The detour follows County Road 16 or County Road 36 to County Road 45 and County Road 39.

Rueben Johnson & Son Inc. is the contractor for the $1.67 million project, which is scheduled for completion in August, weather permitting.

The project will improve drainage, reduce flooding and motorists will experience a smoother ride and safer highway when the project is complete.
