Difficult driving conditions in northwest Minnesota
BEMIDJI, Minn. – (10:30 a.m.) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation is urging drivers to slow down as difficult driving conditions remain throughout the area after the weekend storm.
In the northwest area of the state, all state highways are open, but drifting snow and ice compaction are making driving difficult. Drivers are advised to check road conditions before traveling, allow extra travel time, drive with headlights on and cruise control off and be patient.
MnDOT also reminds drivers to:
- Drive slowly on bridges, ramps and overpasses.
- Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.
- Keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you.
- Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving.
