Snowmobile, ATV users cautioned about erosion control devices along Hwy 34, Hwy 197/71 ditches
BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is cautioning snowmobile, ATV and other recreational vehicle users of potential danger and damage that could occur in ditches along Hwy 34 and Hwy 197/71 in Hubbard and Beltrami counties where erosion control measures are in place.
Required by storm water permits related to construction, MnDOT has temporary erosion control in the ditches, back slopes, and other areas of right of way in the following locations:
- Hwy 34 from the north junction with Hwy 64 east of Akeley to the east end of Park Rapids
- Hwy 197/71 from Carr Lake Road/County Road 11 intersection to the junction with Beltrami County Road 2.
The erosion control devices include temporary silt fences, ditch checks, wood fiber blankets and stabilization mats, in addition to permanent riprap.
Recreational vehicle users are asked to be aware of these existing devices and to use caution when traveling in the affected areas.
