Hwy 220/Hwy 317 improvement project begins Aug. 17
Detour required
BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists will experience a detour on Hwy 220 from the junction of Hwy 11 south to Hwy 1 in northwestern Minnesota as work gets underway to replace culverts and make other improvements to the Hwy. Included in this project is resurfacing of Hwy 317 to the North Dakota bridge crossing.
The project was tentatively scheduled to begin June 20, but was delayed due to the three-week state government shutdown.
Southbound traffic will be detoured west on Hwy 11/North Dakota Hwy 66, south on Interstate 29 to North Dakota Hwy 54, east to Hwy 1 and back to Hwy 220 in Alvarado. Northbound traffic will use the same detour in reverse.
The detour is expected to be removed by Sept. 30 pending culvert replacement completion. Once the detour is removed, flagging operations and a pilot car will direct traffic through the work zone until all work on Hwy 220 is completed in mid-October.
