Hwy 71 work south of Bemidji resumes Aug. 1
Motorists should watch for temporary signal system and traffic switches
BEMIDJI, Minn. – Work to improve and expand a portion of Hwy 71 south of Bemidji and rehabilitate the Hwy 71 bridge over Hwy 2 will resume Aug. 1.
The project was delayed due to a three-week government shutdown.
Crews will install a temporary signal system at the south end of the bridge over Hwy 2 and apply temporary pavement markings. Traffic will switch to use the new northbound lanes on Wednesday, Aug. 3, or
Thursday, Aug. 4.
Two-way traffic on Hwy 71 will use the newly constructed northbound lanes from south of Plantagenet Road to Carr Lake Road during construction.
Motorists are advised to be extremely alert in the construction zone as work continues adjacent to Hwy 71 on the new frontage road for Horace May School.
The estimated project completion date is now mid-October.
