Bridge work continues next week on Hwy 71 over Hwy 2 in Bemidji
Lane closures and traffic control will be in place
BEMIDJI, Minn.—Construction of a new bridge on Hwy 71 over Hwy 2 on the south end of Bemidji will resume next week after a brief winter shutdown.
Motorists are alerted to activity beginning Monday, Feb. 14, when work site preparation gets underway. Traffic will be impacted at the project site beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16, as bridge beams are placed, according to the following schedule:
- Feb. 16—Closure of the right lane and shoulder of eastbound Hwy 2.
- Feb. 1 —Closure of both Hwy 2 eastbound lanes, with traffic detoured using the Hwy 71 on and off ramps. Motorists are cautioned to be patient for ramp signals.
- Feb. 18—Closure of Hwy 2 westbound lanes, with traffic detoured using the Hwy 71 on and off ramps. Motorists are cautioned to watch for a temporary four-way stop on the Hwy 71 ramp from the westbound lanes.
No major traffic impacts are expected beginning the week of Feb. 21, but motorists are asked to be alert to slowing traffic and flagging operations as the work continues.
The project is scheduled to be complete in mid-June.
