Hwy 11 from Frontier Landing to Indus closed to all traffic July 19-23

Plan ahead for increased travel time using detour

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists using Hwy 11 along the U.S. and Canadian border between Baudette and Pelland are urged to plan ahead for increased travel time as a lengthy detour is currently in place to accommodate construction.
All eastbound traffic will be directed to use Hwy 72 south of Baudette for 60 miles, then east on Hwy 1 for five miles to Highway 71, then north on Highway 71 for 61 miles to the Hwy 11 junction at Pelland. All westbound traffic will follow the same detour route in reverse.

This detour has been in place since June 21, but has been open to local business and resident traffic only while all other traffic is directed to use the detour. However, from July 19-23, all traffic will need to use the detour as a portion of the highway will be completely impassable for the removal and replacement of a culvert.

Beginning July 26, the highway will open again to local business and resident traffic only.  Motorists using the route under construction are cautioned to reduce speed, use extreme caution and be alert to workers and equipment in the area.

The official detour route will remain in effect through September.

The project is part of a multi-year effort to improve the Hwy 11 corridor in an area where route options are extremely limited.
