Utility work to begin for expansion of Hwy 197 and 71 in Bemidji
Motorists may encounter single lane closures and minor traffic delays when crews begin relocating utilities next week on the south end of Bemidji to expand Highways 197 and 71.
The project is six miles long and extends from 7th Street SE in Bemidji to Hubbard County Road 9 and includes construction of a new bridge over US Highway 2.
Road and bridge construction is expected to begin in June 2010.
Further construction in 2011 will include access to Horace May Elementary School.
When complete, the project will have additional lanes to carry increased traffic loads and improve safety by adding turn lanes and adjusting access locations.
