Construction on U.S. Highway 2 and Highway 6 in Deer River begins August 17

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists in the Deer River area will encounter traffic delays as a project to improve the condition and safety of U.S. Highway 2 and Highway 6 begins Monday, Aug. 17.   The work consists of milling, resurfacing, culverts, shoulder widening and turn lanes.

Survey work and traffic control preparations will be underway the week of Aug. 17 with traffic restrictions to one lane on both highways beginning the week of Aug. 24.

Work on Highway 2 begins at the junction with Itasca County Road 18 at Ball Club, east to the junction with Highway 6 in Deer River; and on Highway 6 from Deer River north 13 miles.

Motorists are cautioned to be alert for slowing and turning traffic in the area and to obey all work zone signing instructions.  Traffic control measures will include guidance from pilot cars.

The project is one of nearly 100 Minnesota road and bridge projects that are funded with federal economic stimulus dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was signed into law Feb. 17, 2009.

The project is expected to be complete by mid-October, weather permitting.
