Highway 71 detour to lifted July 22 from the Highway 87 south junction at Menahga to the Highway 87 north junction; second detour to be installed

BEMIDJI, Minn –The first phase detour from Highway 71 north of Menahga between the south and north junctions of Highway 87 will be lifted on Wednesday, July 22, with the road open to traffic.

Construction work continues on Highway 71 and motorists are cautioned to be alert to workers, heavy equipment and truck traffic in the project area. Flagging operations, along with a pilot car will assist travelers through the work zone.

A second phase detour will be put into effect on Wednesday, July 22, directing traffic off of Highway 71 at the north junction with Highway 87. Northbound traffic will be routed east on Highway 87, then north on Hubbard County Road 6 to Hubbard County Road 15 and west on Hubbard County Road 15 back to Highway 71. Southbound traffic will use the same route in reverse.

Access to businesses will be maintained along the detour route while construction is in progress.

The $6.8 million project completion date is Sept.19.
