Hwy 71 construction from Menahga to Park Rapids begins July 13
Traffic detours phased in
BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists will encounter a detour on Highway 71 from Menahga to Park Rapids beginning Monday, July 13 as construction gets underway.
The 12.5 mile project includes construction of turn lanes, culvert repairs and replacements, bituminous reclamation, shoulder work and paving. Detours will be phased in to minimize impacts.
The first phase detour will route northbound traffic from Hwy 71 in Menahga east on Wadena County Road 31 to north on Wadena County Road 23 and Hubbard County Road 6 to Hwy 87 and west on Hwy 87 to Hwy 71.
The second phase detour tentatively scheduled from July 30 to Aug. 25, will route traffic from Hwy 71 east on Hwy 87 to Hubbard County Road 6 north to Hubbard County Road 15 and west to Hwy 71.
Access to local area businesses will be maintained along the detour routes while construction is in progress.
There will be increased heavy equipment and truck traffic in the project area; motorists are advised to use extreme caution and obey all traffic signs and speed limits.
The $6.8 million project completion date is Sept.19.
