Bemidji, MN.
-- The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is advising
motorists to expect some traffic delays and lane closures on Trunk
Highway 2 from Wilton to CSAH 11 on the northwest end of Bemidji
as construction gets underway next week for resurfacing and other
safety improvements.
According
to Bill Pirkl, Mn/DOT Project Engineer, the work consists of milling
the surface of both the east bound and west bound lanes of Highway
2 and applying a new overlay of bituminous and conducting guardrail
repair. Also included in the project are the installation of an
acceleration lane for traffic coming off of CSAH 9 and entering
Highway 2, and the installation of overhead lighting at the junction
with Highway 89.
Pirkl said,
"Traffic is being restricted to one lane and motorists are
warned to slow down for reduced speeds, obey all traffic signing
instructions and drive with extreme caution through the work zone."
Pirkl anticipates the project to be complete by mid-September,
weather permitting.
Mn/DOT is
reminding drivers that speeding through a work zone is a double
fine under Minnesota law. Speeding, inattentive driving and tailgating
are the three main reasons for work zone crashes.
