Bemidji, MN.
-- The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is alerting
the public to a detour that will be put in place today as reconditioning
of Trunk Highway 6 gets underway from Talmoon to the north junction
with Trunk Highway 1 in Itasca county.
According to Larry Randall, Mn/DOT Project Supervisor, the entire
length of the project is 18.7 miles, which includes grading, box
culverts and a bituminous overlay. Randall said travelers on this
route should be prepared for a detour of 26.7 miles starting at
Itasca County State Aid Highway 14, east to Trunk Highway 38,
north to Itasca/Koochiching County State Aid Highway 5, northwest
to Trunk Highway 6. The detour will be in reverse for southbound
traffic. Randall cautions that County State Aid Highway 5 will
be restricted to a 9-ton axle load and that no overweight or over
width permits will be issued.
Randall said
the detour would be in place for most of the summer with the entire
project expected to be complete in early October.
