Bemidji, MN.
--- The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is asking
drivers to slow down as you travel through the bridge construction
zone over the Mississippi River on Highway 197, also known as
Paul Bunyan Drive, in Bemidji.
According
to Todd Vonasek, Mn/DOT's Resident Engineer in Bemidji, workers
at the site and calls from the public are reporting increased
amounts of speeding and carelessness by some drivers as they pass
through the area.
Vonasek said
that with the warmer weather, it seems like traffic has increased
and people are driving faster. He cautions drivers that as construction
gets into full swing around the state, people should allow themselves
more time to get through a construction zone and to be alert for
slowing and turning traffic.
