Bemidji, Mn. --- The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT)
is asking for the cooperation of pedestrians and fishermen to avoid
the construction area under and near the Trunk Highway 197 bridge
project in Bemidji.
Mn/DOT has
installed erosion control fencing in the area to prevent possible
damage to the environment but there is risk when the fence is
pulled on or knocked down. People should be aware that any construction
zone is dangerous and should keep clear of any equipment in the
area.
Duane Hill,
Mn/DOT Bridge Engineer said, "boat traffic is allowed to
pass through the Mississippi River channel between Lake Bemidji
and Lake Irving during construction although boaters can expect
to be delayed once the new bridge beams are being put in place."
Mn/DOT would
like to remind the public to slow down and keep alert when passing
through any and all construction zones.
