Implementation plan complete
Background
The Miller Trunk Highway Implementation Plan was completed in Feb. 2003 as a joint effort of the cities of Duluth and Hermantown, the Metropolitan Interstate Committee, St. Louis County, and MnDOT to identify transportation solutions for the Miller Trunk Highway corridor. Roadway segments included:
- Miller Trunk Highway (Hwy 53) from Trinity Road to Midway Road
- Trinity Road (Hwy 53) from Piedmont Avenue to Central Entrance
- Central Entrance (Hwy 194) from Mesaba Avenue to Trinity Road
The plan identifies a number of transportation solutions necessary to maintain movement along and around the Miller Trunk Highway corridor by addressing current and anticipated traffic problems as well as enhancing pedestrian and transit movement. Development of the Implementation Plan involved a number of public working committees and open houses to review and select preferred concepts for future development and construction. The plan is intended to aid local agencies in guiding road access to proposed developments and to seek funding from a variety of sources.
