October 2 UPDATE: Highway 23 is open to travel

During the week of October 5 crews will paint the pavement markings on the road surface and will complete clean-up activities. Motorists may encounter shoulder closures next week as this work is completed.

2015 work:

  • Remove box culvert in Duquette, construct a new bridge and approaches.

    Traffic impacts: 22-mile detour from June 15 to October 2, 2015 during construction of the new bridge. Click here for detour map.

    About 8 miles of the detour is on gravel. The gravel surface has had chloride sparayed on it to minimize dust. The detour route will be maintained throughout the summer.
    Project cost: $1,065,128

    The new Nemadji River Bridge is open to travel. A special surface finish/paint will be applyed to the concrete during the week of Oct. 5.

  • On Hwy 23, 9.5 miles northeast of the south Carlton County line, construct a new bridge and approaches at Nemadji River, improve stream habitat at Deer Creek, Traffic impacts: Detour from June 29 to October 2, 2015 Click here for detour map.
    Project cost: $1,419,000

    Work begins June 29, 2015 and ends October 2, 2015

  • On Hwy 23, 17 miles northeast of the south Carlton County line, construct a new bridge over the BN Railroad and approaches, temporary-lane closures, flaggers. Traffic impacts: Expected to be minor.
    Project cost: $3,159,914
    Work is finished for 2015. Work will resume in May 2016 and will be completed November 11, 2016.
