Traffic impacts

Project work is underway. Motorists should expect lane closures, flagging operations, and delays.

The intersection of Hwy 123 and Hwy 23 will be closed from August 19 until approximately September 10. Hwy 23 and Hwy 123 will both remain open, but traffic must use the intersection of Oak St and Hwy 23 due to the closure. Detour signs will be posted. 

Upcoming Work

West End of Project

  • Monday, Aug 30 – Friday, Sept 10: Hwy 123 & Hwy 23 intersection reconstruct will continue with placement of fill and gravel while remaining under detour.
  • Monday, Aug 30 – Friday, Sept 10: Continued pipe work throughout the west end of the project with traffic under flagging/lane closure control.
  • Thursday, Sept 2 – Friday, Sept 3: Work on the Ashley Road turn lane
  • Thursday, Sept 9: Reclaiming Hwy 123 on west end of project

East End of Project

  • Tuesday, Sept 7 – Wednesday, Sept 8: Mill remainder of Hwy 123 east of town
  • Friday, Sept 10: Reclaim between Sandstone and Kettle River Bridge

Urban section (Hwy 23 to Kettle River Bridge)

  • Roadway resurfacing
    • Between Hwy 23 and Division Street will be a reclaim (with 2” mill) and overlay
    • Between Division Street and Park Avenue will be a 2” mill and overlay
  • Realignment of Hwy 123 and Hwy 23 intersection. Click here to view design of realignment
  • Pedestrian curb ramps will be updated to meet current ADA standards
  • Extend sidewalk along Main Street from Phase Recycling to Old Military Road
  • Extend sidewalk along 3rd street on north side of the road from Court Avenue to Park Avenue and widen shoulder from Park Avenue to Grand Avenue to accommodate a walkable/bikeable connection
  • Storm sewer and drainage improvements
  • Isolated sidewalk and curb and gutter replacement (on in-place system)

Rural section (Park Avenue to Hwy 30)

  • Roadway section will consist of a full depth bituminous reclaim and overlay
  • Addition of a right turn lane at Prison Road
