Bridge foundation work continues on Highway 53 project
VIRGINIA, Minn. – Work continues this month on steel piling that will form the underground base for the bridge on the Highway 53 relocation project. The piling work has been completed on the west side of the bridge and will soon move to the east side.
Crews are also installing a wire mesh drapery system on the east rock wall slopes to prevent rocks from falling on work taking place below. Work on the east side pilings will begin once the system is in place. There is also significant excavation work taking place from the east abutment to Landfill Road as well as north of the future Highway 135 intersection.
