Heavy rain causes pavement settlement at three areas on Hwy 53 near Ash River
DULUTH, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Hwy 53 near Ash River in St. Louis County, may encounter areas where the pavement has settled slightly due to heavy rain earlier this summer. The heavy rain also caused mudslides in the area earlier this month.
MnDOT engineers and maintenance staff monitor the three locations daily and are working with foundations specialists to develop permanent repairs.
MnDOT will request Emergency Federal Funds for the repairs and expect the repairs will be made in fall 2014.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slowdown in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
