Rouchleau Pit media drill rig tour July 17 in Virginia


WHAT:            The media is invited to tour the Rouchleau Pit drilling barge, which is drilling core samples in the Rouchleau Pit as part of the environmental analysis for the Highway 53 Relocation Project.
Please RSVP as soon as possible to Beth Petrowske, beth.petrowske@state.mn.us. There is a limit of ten members of the media for this tour. The first ten to respond will be able to attend.

WHEN:           Thursday, July 17, 10 a.m.

WHERE:         Park at “MineView In The Sky”, 46 Vermilion Drive, 5320 Hwy 53, Virginia, MN  55792. Everyone will be transported to the boat launch in the pit by MnDOT or Idea Drilling vehicles. Then everyone will be transported to the drilling barge by boat.


  • This may be the only opportunity for media to tour the site due to contractor schedules and accessibility issues.
  • Hard hats, safety glasses and boots, and life jackets are required. All safety items will be provided except for boots. If you have personal safety items you may bring them to use.
