Hwy 169 detour begins July 8 at County Road 26 southwest of Tower

DULUTH, Minn. – Motorists on Hwy 169 between Virginia and Tower will encounter a detour and possible delays beginning Monday, July 8 at its junction with County Road 26 southwest of Tower as work continues on a roadway reconstruction project.

  • Northbound Hwy 169 motorists will be detoured east on County Road 26 and then north on Hwy 135.
  • Southbound Hwy 169 motorists will be detoured south on Hwy 135 and then west on County Road 26.

During this phase of the project, a 1.5-mile-long section of Hwy 169 will close between County Road 26 and the Pike River.

The reconstruction project includes:

  • Extending the shoulders to eight feet
  • Improving turning lanes
  • Flattening hills
  • Straightening curves
  • Improving ditching and drainage

After completion the project will improve passing and pull-off areas, flatten hills, and provide a smoother ride for drivers.
