Motorists in Duluth area June 21-23 may experience traffic delays due to Grandma’s Marathon
DULUTH, Minn. – Motorists traveling north on I-35 near Duluth can expect delays on Friday afternoon and evening, June 21. Delays can also be expected for southbound travelers Sunday, June 23. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel-time or travel during off-peak times if possible.
A five-mile-long section of I-35 is restricted to one lane northbound and southbound while crews continue work on a resurfacing project. The project area begins in Scanlon and ends at Boundary Ave. All businesses will remain accessible on I-35.
The Interstate 535/Highway 53 bridge (Blatnik Bridge) between Duluth, Minn. and Superior, Wis. is restricted to one lane in each direction. The Blatnik Bridge is in the second year of a major rehabilitation project.
When the I-35 and Blatnik Bridge projects are finished, motorists will experience a smoother, safer ride.
Grandma’s Marathon, slated for June 22 is one of Duluth’s largest events attracting 50,000 people to 60,000 people, according to marathon officials.
