Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 65 repair project begins June 24 north of Mora

DULUTH, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Hwy 65 will encounter delays beginning Monday, June 24 while crews reconstruct the surface and base of the highway and replace culverts. The 15-mile-long project area begins at Woodland Junction in Kanabec County at mile post 85 to Pliny Junction in Aitkin County mile post 97.

From June 24 to September 2, 2013 single lane closures which will cause delays for motorists traveling through the project will occur. Flaggers and a pilot car will open up one lane to usher and allow traffic to get through the work area. Crews will be working on the project Monday through Saturday.

The entire project is expected to be completed by early-September.

A bituminous reclamation machine will be used as a mill to complete the project. The machine chops and rotates the pavement and mixes it with the existing gravel base-material. After this is graded new pavement is applied over the top.

When finished, motorists will experience a smoother, safer ride.
