Southbound I-35 in Duluth to close temporarily
DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close southbound Interstate 35 between 26th Avenue East and 21st Avenue West in Duluth tonight. The closure is expected to last several days.
Bridge inspectors identified deteriorated piling that needs to be repaired before the southbound lanes can be reopened. MnDOT will begin the repair with its maintenance crew before a contractor is hired to complete the work.
“The bridge is being closed as a precautionary measure due to the amount of deterioration that was identified during a recent inspection,” said Duane Hill, MnDOT District 1 engineer.
Southbound I-35 motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour.
