Culvert repair project begins Sept. 20 on Hwy 23 near Fond du Lac

DULUTH, Minn. —Motorists traveling on Hwy 23 just south of the St. Louis River near Fond du Lac may encounter single-lane traffic between Sept. 20 and Oct. 19 as crews install a large culvert beneath Hwy 23. The new culvert is larger than the one currently in place, which was overwhelmed by the June 19–20 flood.

The area restricted to a single lane is approximately 1000-feet in length. During construction, Hwy 23 in this area will also have 10-foot-wide travel lanes, which is one-foot narrower than the normal width.

This new, larger culvert will mitigate future flooding in this area.
