Detour on Hwy 210 between Carlton and Thomson begins June 6
DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a detour on Hwy 210 between Carlton and Thomson beginning Wednesday, June 6, when the Hwy 210 bridge over the St. Louis River closes for a rehabilitation project. The detour will be in place until October 2012, weather permitting.
Eastbound Hwy 210 traffic should go north on Hwy 45, east on Carlton County Road 61, south on Carlton County Road 1 and then back to Hwy 210.
Westbound Hwy 210 traffic should turn right on Carlton County Road 1, then continue north on Carlton County Road 1, west on County Road 61, south on Hwy 45 and then back to Hwy 210.
The rehabilitation project will extend the life of the bridge for about 50 years.
The project includes:
- Repair or reconstruct structural steel
- Replace or reconstruct gusset plates
- Replace riveted connections with bolted connections
- Install new expansion joints
- Install new concrete bridge deck and rail
- Repair or patch concrete
- Paint bridge
- Install new concrete approach panels
