I-535 Blatnik Bridge routine safety inspection underway

DULUTH, Minn. —The Interstate 535 Blatnik Bridge over the St. Louis River between Minnesota and Wisconsin is undergoing a pre-scheduled, routine safety inspection. The inspection began Monday, July 25, and is expected to be completed in mid-August, weather permitting.

During daytime working hours, motorists may encounter single-lane closures; however, all lanes  reopen for the morning and evening peak travel times.

In addition to the inspection, crews will do some preventative deck maintenance.

Since the project began, traffic backups have been occurring periodically. Motorists are asked to be patient and drive carefully near the work zone areas. Motorists may use the Bong Bridge via 46th Avenue West as an alternative route.

The Blatnik Bridge undergoes a comprehensive inspection every two years to help ensure the bridge remains a reliable and safe transportation route.
