Hwy 65 from Nashwaulk to Togo remains closed, Hwy 1 from Hwy 65 to 73 also closed due to flooding

DULUTH, Minn. — Hwy 65 from Nashwaulk to Togo is still closed due to flooding and road damage where flood waters undermined the roadbed and washed away shoulders. Water still covers the road in the Bear River area.

Hwy 1 is also closed due to flooding that washed out a culvert and created a large hole in the road surface. The damaged portion of Hwy 1 is between Hwy 73 and Hwy 65.

Alternate routes

Damage to the roads includes guardrail, pavement and culvert damage in seven locations.

MnDOT crews have erected signs and barricades and are also staffing the closure points to prevent motorists from entering the flooded areas. MnDOT crews are making repairs as the water recedes and will reopen the damaged roads as soon as they are safe for motorists.

The area surrounding the closed roads is saturated with water from more than five inches of rain on Monday and heavy rain a week earlier.
