Rough road conditions on a temporary gravel section of Hwy 61 cause slow travel in Lake County

MnDOT strongly suggests that motorists use alternate route

DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists driving Hwy 61 are strongly encouraged to use a posted alternate route between County Road 3 (just north of Two Harbors) and County Road 4 in Beaver Bay due to pothole damage to a temporary road surface near a MnDOT construction project.

The posted alternative route uses County Road 3 and County Road 4. Approximately eight miles of the alternate route is on a gravel surface.

Gooseberry Falls State Park and Split Rock State Park are accessible using Hwy 61 but travel is slow and extremely bumpy on the two-mile, gravel, temporary road surface.

Repairs to the damaged section of the gravel temporary road are being made, and will continue to be made as weather permits.

Heavy rain yesterday caused the pothole damage.
