Expect lots of road construction on I-35 between Twin Cities and Duluth in 2011

Travelers should plan more time for trips

ST. PAUL, Minn. —Travelers on I-35 between the Twin Cities and Duluth will experience longer than usual travel times as the Minnesota Department of Transportation heads into a second year of construction projects that will improve the safety and mobility of this heavily traveled corridor.

Mn/DOT advises drivers to plan ahead and be prepared for various kinds of traffic control, such as lane restrictions, two-lane head-to-head traffic, enforced speed reductions, flaggers controlling traffic flow, potential traffic back-ups and congestion.

Travelers may want to consider alternate routes around the many construction sites, as well as leave earlier or stay later at their destinations.

In total, there will be 10 major highway improvement projects within this busy corridor, including pavement resurfacing, shoulder-widening and bridge repairs, in addition to the work being done as part of the historic Duluth I-35 Mega Project.

For more information about the planned work on I-35, see www.dot.state.mn.us/d1/projects/i35southofduluth
