Public meeting on Hwy 53 relocation set for March 22

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend a discussion on the relocation of Hwy 53 between Virginia, Minn. and Eveleth, Minn.

When:             Tuesday, March 22—Presentations will be held at 3 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Where:           Gilbert Community Center, 17 N. Broadway Ave., Gilbert, Minn.

Mn/DOT is working to determine a new alignment for Hwy 53 between Virginia, Minn. and Eveleth, Minn. resulting from United Taconite Corporation’s future mining operation needs.

As part of the initial project scoping process, this meeting will serve as a means to review project timelines and receive public input that will be used in the development and consideration of re-routing alternatives.

Due to the large attendance at previous meetings, this meeting will follow an open house format that will be centered on repeated project presentations in order to allow the public to choose which time they wish to attend.

Public comment can be provided at the meeting, via e-mail: brian.larson@state.mn.us, or through the project’s website: www.dot.state.mn.us/d1/projects/hwy53relocation/index.html.
