Hwy 1 south of Ely reopens to traffic Dec. 30
DULUTH, Minn. — Hwy 1 south of Ely is scheduled to reopen to traffic Friday, Dec. 30, in the late afternoon.
Motorists have been required to use a detour while crews removed muck from an 800-foot-long segment below the surface of Hwy 1.
The area where the work took place will have a gravel surface. Motorists are encouraged to slow down in this area. Advance warning signs will be posted to alert motorists they are approaching the gravel surface.
Work on the project will not resume until spring.
This project will completely reconstruct the road to meet current design standards and will provide a safer and smoother driving surface for motorists.
The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2012.
