Public meeting for Hwy 1 construction project set for Nov. 15 in Ely
DULUTH, Minn. — The public is invited to a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15, to discuss the Highway 1 reconstruction project south of Ely between Forest Road 424/New Tomahawk Road and just north of Forest Road 553.
The public meeting is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Vermilion Community College, 1900 E. Camp St., Ely. A presentation about the project, schedule and detour will take place at 6:30 p.m.
The project requires a detour that will close Highway 1 to through-traffic for up to 45 working days sometime during winter 2011-12 and summer 2012.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the $7,147,559 project with Minnesota Department of Transportation engineers and representatives from KGM Contractors.
This project is the second of three segments on Highway 1 that will be reconstructed. The first segment was completed in 2008 and received a U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Excellence in Highway Design award.
