Detour begins Nov. 28 on Hwy 1 south of Ely
DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a detour on Hwy 1 south of Ely beginning Monday, Nov. 28. The detour will be in place until the week of Dec. 19. 
Crews will remove poor soil and muck beneath Hwy 1 during the closure. This work is in preparation for a project to reconstruct a five-mile section of Hwy 1 next spring and summer.
Hwy 1 will be closed between Forest Road 424/New Tomahawk Road and just north of Forest Road 553. Motorists will be required to follow the posted detour.
