MnDOT to install digital message signs on I-35, Hwy 53 in Duluth Aug. 8-10
Nighttime traffic delays anticipated
DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists will experience nighttime delays on Interstate 35 and Hwy 53 in Duluth Aug. 8-10, while crews install overhead digital message signs. Installation has been scheduled at night to minimize traffic impacts.
These are the final two digital message signs to be installed as part of the I-35 Mega Project.
11 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, to 5 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9 ─ The first sign will be installed on Hammond Avenue at the foot of the I-535/Hwy 53 Blatnik Bridge. Traffic will be detoured east on Fifth Street, north on Grand Avenue and then back onto Hwy 53.
11 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, to 5 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10 ─ Crews will install the second sign on southbound I-35 near Garfield Avenue. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the shoulder and stopped periodically for as long as 15 minutes throughout the night.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations or take an alternate route during the project.
Digital message signs are a safety tool used to communicate messages to motorists about crashes, projects, weather-related issues and Amber Alerts.
