Hwy 61 project north of Split Rock River nears completion
Preparations for final paving project underway

DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Hwy 61 near the Split Rock River will encounter two short stretches of gravel driving surface between Aug. 30 and Sept. 7.

One section will affect northbound and southbound traffic. The other section will only affect northbound traffic.

Both 1500-foot-long sections will be repaved Sept. 8.

Minnesota Department of Transportation personnel will inspect the gravel surfaces and make sure they are maintained until they are repaved.

The posted speed of 45 mph will remain in effect.

This two-year reconstruction and bridge project is expected to be completed in late-September.
