Second Avenue West ramp to close Aug. 29 in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — The Second Avenue West ramp at Mesaba Avenue will close Monday, Aug. 29, between 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., while Minnesota Department of Transportation crews test a new anti-icing system.

Motorists may use West Seventh Street or North Fourth Avenue West as alternate routes.

The Second Avenue ramp is the steepest ramp in Duluth that MnDOT maintains and is the only ramp in the city with an anti-icing system.

Road anti-icing systems are controlled by weather stations equipped with sensors and thermometers. Spray heads embedded in the road surface spray anti-icing solution on the roadway to help prevent ice from forming.
