Mn/DOT reminds pedestrians to wear reflective clothing when walking near roadways at night

DULUTH, Minn. –Citizens who walk along roadways after dark should remember to wear bright and reflective clothing so they are visible to drivers, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Mn/DOT snowplow operators have seen a growing number of pedestrians, especially in remote rural areas throughout Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region, dressed in dark clothing while walking at night. This makes them nearly invisible to snowplow drivers, causing the drivers to make a quick, evasive action to avoid hitting the pedestrians.

People can purchase high visibility vests, jackets and hats at most sporting goods, biking, running and hardware store.

Mn/DOT stresses that wearing dark colored clothing at night while walking near the roadway is risky, unsafe and potentially life threatening.
